Retail credit growth moderated in Aug: RBI

The pace of credit offtake across segments, including retail, moderated in August compared toa year ago, ahead of the festival season. The nonfood credit, which includes industry, retail, services andagriculture, expanded by9.9 percent onayear-on-year (Y-0-Y) basisin the fortnight ended August 22, 2025, as against 13.6per cent growthin the corresponding fortnight of the previous year (ended August 23, 2024), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed.
RBI, in a statement, said, the credit growth in retail segment covering housing, credit cards, vehicles and unsecured loans etc decelerated to 11.8 per cent from 13.9 per cent a year ago. The Y-0-Y growth figures for retail credit for the month of July 2025 was 11.9 per cent, whileitwas14,7 percent for Juneand13.7 per cen
