Warning to farmers following cattle death

VETS are warning farmers to be vigilant for hemlock poisoning are seven cattle were found dead in a field near Bristol. An eighth was having seizures and was shot to end its suffering.

Tyndale Vets, which operates in South Gloucestershire, said it was the practice’s second case in a week. They suspect the prolonged dry weather has exposed hemlock roots with fatal consequences for thirsty cattle. Early symptoms include rapid breathing, teeth grinding and muscle weakness before victims progress to seizures and paralysis. “Death follows shortly after” said the practice. “There is no treatment.
