MOVIE SALTBURN MADE HER SONG MURDER ON THE DANCEFLOOR HUGE FOR A SECOND TIME. SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR TELLS MARION MCMULLEN WHY SHE WILL NEVER TIRE OF PERFORMING HER HITS
-
THE memorable final scene of the 2024 film Saltburn led to a huge resurgence in Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 hit Murder On the Dancefloor.
It went to number two in the UK singles charts and the song has now achieved more than 11 billion global streams across all streaming and social platforms.
Sophie says the interest in the song led to her busiest year. "I went around the world literally last year," she says, "and I did more than 110 gigs, but it is OK because I love what I do and they were exciting opportunities that I was eager to take.
"When everything blew up with Murder On The Dancefloor, the lovely thing was, not only do I have a really good relationship with that song, but the band and I were ready. We were match fit. (Laughs) It wasn't like I had to be woken up from my chamber or anything. I just went for it.
"I have been lucky enough to have a few moments in my career when there's been an unexpected thing that's provided little rocket boosts and I think experience taught me just to embrace what was happening and to really enjoy it very much in the moment. I thought this is just fun.
"I am going to absolutely enjoy the here and now."
