To be Frank, Sky Blues look like Premier League promotion pick

COVENTRY City, now top of the Championship, look the most likely by far of the three West Midlands clubs to gain promotion to the Premier League.

To be Frank, Sky Blues look like Premier League promotion pick

Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard

It is time to stop all this 'it is early season' references. When the Sky Blues, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion resume playing after the international break, they are in the tenth round of league matches. There are 46 matches each in the regular season.

Too early? Managers already sacked this season: Steve Bruce at Blackpool and Russell Martin at Rangers at the weekend.

Last month, we saw Graham Potter dismissed at West Ham, Michael Flynn at Cheltenham, Mike Dodds sacked at Wycombe, Ruben Selles gone at Sheffield United, Nuno Espirito Santo leaving Nottingham Forest and Derek Adams at Morecambe. Locally, Solihull Moors sacked Matt Taylor.

The bookies have Ange Postecoglou next at Nottingham Forest (he has only just got there this season) and Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim. It will be mid-October when domestic football is back in full swing. Don’t give me that early-season stuff any more!

Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues are doing what the Blues and Baggies are not - namely banging in lots of goals and are now the only unbeaten team in the Championship.

Lampard is attacking; the other two, particularly the Blues, are playing too many balls at the back.

Coventry's two away games last week provided two big wins 4-0 at Millwall and 5-0 at Sheffield Wednesday and the margins should have been bigger! Wednesday had been unlucky in being held to a draw at Birmingham in midweek!

Coventry are already setting new records. Their 27 goals in nine league games is a record since this division was rebranded in 2004.
