Stourbridge leap-frog rivals into top spot
July 01, 2025
|Birmingham Mail
STOURBRIDGE stormed to the top of the Premier Division Two table after a dazzling bowling display swept aside former front-runners Tamworth by just eight runs in a low-scoring encounter.
-
Batting first, the Black Country side were dismissed for just 119, opener Jujhar Johal (34) the only batsman to find much fluency against Tamworth's spin pair Jason Jakeman (5-21) and Tom Smith (4-27).
But the Stourbridge bowlers also made the most of the conditions, skittling out their visitors for a meagre 111 in the 26th over with Syed Bukhari finishing with 4-8 and Dominic O'Reilly 4-38. Scott Daly top-scored with 30.
Kenilworth Wardens climbed to third place with a handsome 101-run victory over struggling Handsworth.
The Birmingham outfit's Krish Chauhan took 5-52 but there were still three half-centuries for Wardens courtesy of Andrew Leering (69), Ben Blakemore (67) and Ben Rex (60no) as they finished their innings on 259-9.
