Storm Claudia wreaks havoc across Midlands

Love and the roundabout at Middle Ring Road

Persistent rain and strong winds caused roads to flood, trees to fall and trains to be cancelled.

An amber alert was issued by the Met Office with experts warning of fast flowing or deep floodwater potentially posing a 'danger to life'.

Conditions were expected to be less dramatic today with a yellow warning in place until 6am, although rain is expected to continue for much of the day.

West Midlands Railway reported multiple issues across its services last night. Services were suspended on the Chase Line from Birmingham New Street to Rugeley Trent Valley and there were also cancellations on the Snow Hill Line due to 'multiple trees down'.
