Lidl returns with a new bid for city supermarket

The return of plans to build a Lidl in Bath has reignited a fierce debate over whether the east of Bath wants the budget supermarket.

Lidl's original plan to build its second supermarket in Bath on a field on London Road was met with a protest and over 1,500 comments on the planning application.

But last July, Lidl withdrew that application and said it would submit an improved application once it had carried out highways surveys and other work.

Now the budget supermarket chain has submitted a new application, which it says has been designed to mitigate any impact on traffic on London Road. Because it is a new application, none of the original comments carry over.
