Protesters demand government action
Thai authorities are considering legal action under the Criminal Code following a border incident in which a group of Cambodian nationals allegedly dismantled sections of barbed wire fencing in the Nong Chan area of Sa Kaeo on Monday.
Deputy Defence Minister Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit said yesterday that the Burapha Force under the First Army Region had erected additional barbed wire fencing in the area to prevent potential disturbances from Cambodian villagers.
The fencing was placed near the Thai-Cambodian border, specifically in Ban Nong Chan in Khok Sung district, where the provincial governor of Sa Kaeo had planned to meet with local Thai residents.
He said the newly added barbed wire was not part of the original boundary demarcation but was installed as a temporary measure for crowd control and public safety.
