NATURAL disasters have become tragically common, but the wildfires that swept through Los Angeles in January stood out for their ferocity and widespread devastation. While celebrity homes lost in the Palisades fire have gotten a lot of attention, the Eaton fire destroyed thousands of homes in the middle-class enclave of Altadena. The fires have also exacerbated a housing shortage in the Los Angeles area, leaving many families scrambling to find a place to live.
