What to expect from a secret-laden story set in a wealthy New York suburb

Keeping up APPEARANCES

YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBOURS

NEW FROM FRIDAY 11 APRIL, APPLE TV+ DRAMA (FIRST TWO EPISODES FROM FRI 11 APRIL, THEN WEEKLY)

The role of wry, whisky-drinking ad exec Don Draper, whose apparently perfect life was not all it seemed, in hit US period piece Mad Men catapulted Jon Hamm to global fame. Now the 54-year-old is playing another haunted high-flyer in glossy Apple TV+ drama Your Friends & Neighbours.

The steamy nine-part series sees Jon star as Andrew ‘Coop’ Cooper, a wealthy hedge-fund manager who thought he had it all, until he discovered his wife Mel (Fatal Attraction’s Amanda Peet) was having an affair with his best friend Nick (Damages actor Mark Tallman).

Another shattering life event follows when Coop is fired from his well-paid job, and struggles to find another position. Elsewhere, he is unable to connect with his two teenage kids - tennis prodigy Tori (Isabel Gravitt) and musician Hunter (Donovan Colan). Not only that, he's also embarked on a turbulent casual relationship with someone in his and Mel's friendship circle in the affluent New York suburb of Westmont Village.

‘Coop's personal life has gone off the rails,’ Jon explains. ‘So when his professional life does the same, he's got to decide if he's going to sink or swim!’

MONEY TROUBLES

With three homes to fund - including one for his troubled sister, Ali (Snowpiercer's Lena Hall) - as well as alimony and child support to pay for, an increasingly lonely Coop starts to question the decisions he's made, and the values they were informed by. For instance, can money really buy happiness?
