Jamie Lee Curtis began her Hollywood career bellowing in terror in the Halloween films, but now she is advocating a different kind of scream.

The Oscar-winning actress, 67, is in favour of screaming for emotional release, as shown by her character in the new comedy-drama film Ella McCay, in which she plays the no-nonsense aunt of an idealistic politician portrayed by Emma Mackey. Jamie plays a blunt but loyal supporter of the title character, who unexpectedly finds herself as a state governor at the age of 34. The actress, who is also due to appear in Amazon Prime Video's TV crime series Scarpetta in March alongside Nicole Kidman, discusses the joy she takes in acting and the discovery that she is no longer an actress, but an artist.
