"Biotechnology will play a defining role in shaping the next industrial revolution and will be a key driver of global and Indian economic growth", said Dr Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology.

Addressing a gathering of scientists, industry leaders, award winners and members of the biotechnology fraternity at an awards and recognition event organised by BioSpectrum India, the Minister said that science, innovation and biotechnology are now integral to the global economic journey.
"The next industrial revolution is likely to be biotech-driven, just as the previous one was driven by information technology," Dr Singh said, adding that the work being done by India's biotechnology community deserves not only recognition but celebration.
