FOR SOME YEARS now, Ford has claimed that the Mustang is the world's best-selling sports car, a description that must irritate folk in Zuffenhausen - but then, Porsche describes its Cayenne as a 'sports car for the whole family? And, after a week living with the latest Mach 1 version of the Mustang, I've started to think that Ford has a point.
'But sports cars are supposed to be compact and nimble!' I hear you cry. Well, consider this stat. The 911 Carrera, the closest in horsepower to a Mustang V8, is about 1.9m wide with mirrors folded out. A Mustang measures 1.92m. Yes, the Mustang is longer and heavier, but it's not the bloated barge many Brits imagine it to be.
