WEAVING STORIES FROM SCRAP
June 2025
|Architecture + Design
Through her work with Wolf, Ritu demonstrates that contemporary art and traditional craft can coexist beautifully, each enriching the other while preserving the cultural heritage that makes her city unique
Ritu Singh, Founder, Wolf
“The old city of Jaipur is a labyrinth of craft narratives, many of whom have been here since the city was established almost 300 years ago. They didn’t fail to amaze us then and now, with better understanding of the crafts and its people, it is astounding—each lane, each craft and all the craftspeople who are following in their forefathers’ footsteps,” opens up Ritu Singh.
INSPIRED BY JAIPUR’S CRAFT LEGACYLed by Ritu & Surya Singh, Wolf transforms discarded materials into contemporary art while celebrating traditional craft narratives. Initially working with scrap and found objects, they were drawn to artisans’ generational knowledge, integrating it into their art. Their collaboration for the Kochi Biennale 2018-19, incorporating Theyyam performance elements, marked a pivotal moment in their craft journey.
