What's in a name? Juliet laments atop her famous balcony in Shakespeare's eponymous play. Fast forward to 600 years, how about the idea of a 6,000 sq ft hidden gem in Goa! The inception of Villa Shai began the way all living things do—with a seed. A small, deeply personal idea that stems from the name Shai.

Named after Shaista, the daughter of homeowners Sunhaila and Sumeer Duggal, the villa grew from this single point of inspiration, unfolding gradually into a home shaped by family and memory. Designed by Devika and Raj Khosla of The Works Interiors, this Goan retreat mimics its natural setting, much like a tree taking form from its first shoot, drawing strength from the land, the region's layered culture, and its leisurely way of life.

Set within dense greenery and shaped by its context, Villa Shai is a tranquil family retreat that pays homage to Goa’s rich cultural history and lush greenery. Beyond the plot boundary, lush landscaping and a calming water body create a sense of seclusion, while within, every space opens generously towards the outdoors. “We wanted the house to feel like a natural extension of its surroundings, almost as if it had always been there,” reveals Devika.
