Chef Gurmehar Sethi and architects Sumit Dhawan and Aman Aggarwal on designing spaces and experiences that speak to all the senses
-
In a world increasingly driven by algorithms and aesthetics, a chef and two architects sit down to discuss something more fundamental: the sensory, the raw and the human. In Episode 7, The Culinary Canvas, of Schueco India's Inside View presented in collaboration with Architecture+Design and Lifestyle Asia India, architect Sumit Dhawan of Cityspace' 82 Architects, chef Gurmehar Sethi of Klap, Ziu, Tranzit and Aajuni, and architect Aman Aggarwal of Charged Voids explore what it truly means to design for experience, whether it's a restaurant, a kitchen or a courtyard.
THE ARCHITECTURE OF EXPERIENCE
“I think as architects, our job is to create experience,” says Aman. “Experience is for everybody, you know, it is for the people who work there, it is for the people who are coming there, it is for the people who own the place.” He explains that architecture isn't just visual. It's a dialogue with all the senses: how you feel the air, the thermal comfort, the touch of surfaces, the smells that surround you. The ultimate goal is to create an environment that resonates with everyone who steps into it.
Reflecting on human connection to nature, Aman notes that no matter how luxurious the material, it cannot replicate the raw, elemental sensation of sand underfoot or wind on the skin.
