Indeed ours is the best of times, ours is the worst of times. It is definitely not a happy feeling to resent ‘refugees’ nor to agitate over denials to others. Bitterness for others, after all, makes our own little worlds bitter. But such are the vicious strokes of our post colonial history, our geo-political trappings. And one responds and reacts, seeking the best possible dignity and fairness for all. The debates around the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has woken us up to some of these searing realities.
