The Magnetic Personality of Indian Hockey.

Dhyanchand

Hockey is the national sports of India. However, the popularity of cricket has taken a toll on this game. Its national level is limited only to the textbooks. No great victory has been achieved by the Indian Hockey Team, or more accurately, no great victory of Indian hockey team is celebrated like the victories of cricket. In such conditions, it is only natural to remember one legendary, and perhaps the only, name in Indian Hockey, Dhyan Chand. His exceptional playing skills had earned him the name of Hockey Wizard. Continuously scoring the goals in hockey match was neither a problem nor a challenge for this exceptional player. Hailing from a small village he rose to become the most reliable Indian name in the field of sports and his victory was not limited to the state or national level but further rose to the international level. Let us know about his life and career:

Birth and Initial Years

On 29th August 1905 a child was born in a Bais Rajput family. Little did one know that he would shine like a star in the sky of the world? A son of Subedar (a rank in Indian Army) sportsmanship was always a natural part of Dhyanchand. The constant transfer of his family forced him to stop the studies after 6th standard. His introduction to the sports began with wrestling but soon he started drifting towards Hockey.

Recognition of his exceptional skills
