The Indian Solar Energy Sector - Will It Make A Comeback In 2018?
THE YEAR THAT WAS 2017:
The year 2017 was pretty dull for the Indian energy sector. The penultimate months of October and November showed a sharp fall in activity when the Indian solar power sector fought factors such as increasing solar panel costs and flat power demand. The gravity of the situation was well assessed when against the annual target of 15000 MW (Megawatts) of solar power commissioning, India merely commissioned 3000MW of solar power as on December 2017.
THE START OF 2018:
2018 gave a good start to the solar power sector of India with over 4000 MW of projects in the pipeline that the sector can bid for and execute pan India. Right at the beginning of the year, in the first week of January itself, SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) gave out tenders of over 1200 MW of projects, out of which 750 MW is in Andhra Pradesh, 275 MW in Uttar Pradesh and 200 MW in Karnataka.
