Designers Who Should Be On Your Radar This Year

From experimenting with new materials, reinventing Indian crafts to setting up research-based practices, these women are undisputed game changers in their chosen field. Meet the ladies who are all set to revolutionise the Indian design landscape.

APOORVA SHROFF

Founder, LYTH

Through her recently-established, multi-disciplinary firm LYTH, the architect aims to conquer all limitations with the power of design.

Apoorva Shroff’s dream project is to take charge of the city of Mumbai and make it design conscious. “There is so much potential, from the waterfronts to the small sprinkling of open spaces left, if we don’t start with conscious choices it will be a lost opportunity,” says Shroffwho recently branched out from reD Architects where she was instrumental in building the then fledgling firm to the leading practice that it is today. She’s worked with illustrious names — Bijoy Jain, Talati & Panthaky, Cooper Robertson and Partners, New York. One of more recent projects, Airavat - a Home in the Clouds was nominated as a finalist at the prestigious World Architecture Festival, 2021. “Our Home in the Clouds has fulfilled my architectural cravings by checking all the boxes. It’s become a place that brings people together. Much like its name, Airavat, I envision it to be a home where seasons change, parents age and children grow as it continues to stand tall unmoved like that majestic elephant.”

#BEATTHEFIRE - WHAT YOU SPECIFY CAN DECIDE WHO SURVIVES

In moments of fire, there is no second chance. The materials you choose today determine whether a building protects lives tomorrow - or puts them at risk. In an age where speed of construction and visual appeal often overshadow safety, one critical truth must remain nonnegotiable: fire safety begins at the specification stage.
