"There is something deeply unsettling about the idea that, beneath centuries of civilisation, an animal still throbs within us," reveals Sofia Lucas. We can rationalise, debate, create political systems and philosophical theories, but deep down, the spark that drives us is the same as ever: the urge to survive, to seek food, to protect what is ours, to desire what we do not have. Recognising this is perhaps the most radical form of humanity: accepting that the animal in us is not a flaw, but a root. That there is no true civilisation without confronting this instinctive, sometimes contradictory, always vital part of ourselves.
