It feels like living as a woman in South Asia is a bizarre obstacle course, whether it’s tuning out men on the street hissing at you, avoiding wild crotch thrusts on the bus, or pole-vaulting over society’s view of us as demure baby-makers. We like to think of it as the Takashi’s Castle of misogyny! It’s made us learn that the battle for equality is hard, but inequality itself is a hell of a lot harder. So this issue, we celebrate women – especially women who empower! From our brilliant cover star Laverne Cox who is a vocal advocate for LGBTIQ rights, to the four incredibly driven women featured, these are individuals who aren’t just successful on their own merit.
