Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation (NTT) of Japan acquired 35% of Sri Lanka Telecom in the recent divestiture of Sri Lanka Government shares in Sri Lanka Telecom (making) their US$225 million investment the single largest the country has seen so far. Hideaki Kamitsuma, the new CEO of SLT said, "I would like to send my staff a message, i.e., to be confident that we are in a position to meet the public demand for telephones, to be open to their criticisms, and complaints because we can meet them.
CDC has a very clear mandate – the creation of long-term self sustainable businesses in the world's less developed countries. It's a mandate that means we work closely with local governments but invest commercially in the private sector.
Consumer Protection – how does this affect our daily buying and selling operations? Are we guarded against unscrupulous vendors selling substandard products, i.e., products that are priced way beyond their actual worth, or in the worst case scenario, products which are not at all what they promised to be?
