It is believed that chess originated in India, and in the last few decades, chess in India saw a qualitative and quantitative rise. We are among the top 10 in the world and our players have won joint gold in the 2020 Chess Olympiad and a bronze next year. Now, for the first time, India has got an opportunity to host the Chess Olympiad. While Chennai is gearing up for the mega event, starting from July 28, the Indian legend GM Viswanathan Anand is also likely to become the Depute President of FIDE, the International Chess Federation. With these steps, we can surely say that we are marching towards becoming a ‘Chess Super Power’.
