Understanding your bait and what makes a good bait, is your first and most important tool in landing the carp of your dreams. “Understanding Carp Bait Additives, Ingredients and Mixes” and a little attention in your bait approach can yield big results says Paul Rawsthorne.

The fact that carp spend a lot of time in mid to upper layers of water must make “Fishing a Zig-rig” a good choice which is often under fished here in South Africa, according to Noel Midlane. 

With so many different sizes of hooks available it can be difficult decision to know what size would be needed for which baits. However, no matter which size of hook is selected, there’s always a chance a carp can see it. Remember if we can see it then carp will probably see it too! Billfish 15000
The annual Billfish 15000 Tournament was hosted at Sodwana Bay in November. This was the 29th year that this tournament was held. The tournament was organised and hosted by the Dorado Ski Boat Club from Carletonville. Anyone who has attended this prestigious tournament will attest to the fantastic organisation and correlation of all activities by Dorado.
It is by far the best organised and most prestigious tournament in the South African fishing calendar. Read about all the action that took place

Boilie Bait Basics
When the term boilie is discussed amongst carp fishermen, there is the immediate acceptance that a boilie can only be used as bait for specimen fishing. This is not the case. 
Paul Rawsthorne has caught some of his biggest carp by using these wonderful balls of bait, either crushed up into powder or loose in my ground bait, whilst still using a method feeder and standard hook baits for bank angling like floats, mealies and dough.

Cape Town is a beautiful and inviting city full of exciting places and attractions like the waterfront, two oceans aquarium, cable car, vibrant night life and off-course world class beaches. This however has the tendency to over shadow the opportunity for holiday fishing or does it?
The Cape Province has one of the best coastlines for a fishing enthusiast of all walks of life, especially holiday makers from the land locked provinces coming to the Cape over Christmas. In this issue Paul Rawsthorne helps fishing enthusiasts “Targeting the Cape Coastline”.

Before you can catch fish, you must know where they are! This said, most anglers still select river swims with their own comfort in mind, rather than giving a thought to whether the swim actually contains the fish they are seeking. Fish have been swimming in dams and rivers for quite a while now, give or take a few million years, this is considerably longer than anglers have been throwing mealie bomb, boilies or bread dough into the water.
So how have fish survived all those years? By living on natural baits - that's how!

Baits that either started life in the water, such as water snails to grubs, insects, and bugs that either got blown into the water, or landed on the surface film. This is why fishing with naturally occurring baits can throw up a huge fish or two to any angler that is willing to give

Our main article this month features PVA Tactics to Catch Carp. PVA is one of the most under used fishing tools in everyday carp fishing. Most fishermen believe that PVA can only be used for specimen angling but PVA can be used by weekend warriors as well with great success.
