Theo thống kê của Bảo hiểm xã hội Việt Nam, trong giai đoạn 2013-2016, có 2,5 triệu người lao động nhận bảo hiểm xã hội (BHXH) một lần. Chín tháng đầu năm 2017 có gần 537.000 người và dự báo đến hết năm 2017 sẽ có khoảng 700.000 người nhận BHXH một lần. Người lao động, vì những tính toán tài chính cá nhân "chạy" để nhận BHXH một lần, thì cơ quan quản lý Nhà nước cũng phải "chạy" theo để điều chỉnh hay hoạch định chính sách BHXH mới sao cho phù hợp nhằm níu chân họ chứ không thể cấm cản việc họ bỏ phiếu bằng chân, theo bài viết "Chạy… bảo hiểm xã hội" của Nguyên Lê trên TBKTSG số ra ngày 5-10-2017.
