Celebrate Pulp Modern's 10th birthday with eight killer pieces of pulp fiction and an outstanding article about Walter Moseley written by Anthony Perconti.

The celebration begins with an ace piece of crime fiction by Karen Harrington. We get samples of the greatness of indie writers such as Anthony Neil Smith, Andrew Miller, and Stephen J. Golds. Nathan Pettigrew provides an odd slice of life between a father and son whose concerns about breaking the law don't get in the way of their more domestic and material endeavors. We get a nice slice of fantasy and horror from C.J. Dotson and Sarah Cannavo. Chicago's unofficial poet laureate, Tia Ja'nae, shows us just why she's the most important crime fiction writer today. Finally, Edward A. Grainger (aka David Cranmer) brings his classic western marshal, Cash Laramie, back for another adventure. Fitting, considering Cash Laramie made an appearance in the very first issue of Pulp Modern, way back in 2011, when the world still made just a little bit of sense...

Richard Krauss returns as art director. Ran Scott provides illustrations. And editor Alec Cizak sits back and lets all these talented writers and artists do their thing.

The most influential independent fiction digest evolves yet again. In addition to the usual selection of outstanding short stories by today's top writers, Pulp Modern now features a host of non-fiction articles and opinion pieces.

Continuing its celebration of its first decade of independent publishing excellence, the year 1981 is examined, a year pivotal in the formation of society's current state. This means a number of stories taking place in the year 1981 as well as articles about the events and social concerns of the era. The AIDS and crack-cocaine crises are explored as well as the dawn of hip hop as a major musical force and 1981's gold rush of slasher cinema.

Before the issue closes out, Switchblade Magazine editor Scotch Rutherford addresses the infection in independent publishing that generated needless controversy over the course of 2020 and 2021.

The Dangerous Women issue. After a brief hiatus, Pulp Modern returned with a double-sized issue featuring stories about women behaving badly, or just behaving in a manner necessary to survive. Pulp Modern was almost dead. Lackluster sales numbers had pushed editor Alec Cizak to the brink of shutting it down for good. Then he got the idea of making each issue themed. The 50th anniversary of the coup in Dealey Plaza was coming up, so Cizak decided to make the murder of JFK the first theme. Heavy-hitters like Joe Clifford, Rob Pierce, Chris Rhatigan, and Mav Skye stepped up to the plate to help knock this one out of the park and keep the digest alive and kicking.

Issue Five of the legendary first run of Pulp Modern. While the golden age of the online pulp revolution was coming to an end, with the bulk of the major outlets shutting their doors, Pulp Modern kept  the movement alive. This issue features stories by Patti Abbott and the late Ron Scheer.
