In this issue

Gains in same-sex marriage rights in the past few weeks have left most people surprised and the conservative right off balance. Iowa and Vermont legalized same-sex marriage, D.C. decided to recognize same-sex marriages performed legally elsewhere, and in Maine, New Hampshire, and New York, marriage bills were either introduced or progressed through the legislatures in rapid succession.
