The August 2016 issue continues our year of celebration of EQMM’s 75th anniversary with special features honoring the magazine’s illustrious former editors. We start off with “The Ten-Cent Murder” by Joseph Goodrich, a tale based on the real-life connection between Dashiell Hammett and EQMM founding editor Frederic Dannay, who solves a classical whodunit with Hammett by his side. Learn more about editor Dannay in a piece by scholar Francis M. Nevins entitled “Founding Editor At Work: Fred Dannay and EQMM,” and pick up some little known facts about Manfred B. Kemanis’s moving classical whodunit “Journal Entry, Franklin DeWitt,” and climb the Andean slopes, where your climbing partners may pose as great a threat as the environment, in current Arthur Ellis Award nominee Scott Mackay’s “The Ascent.” Dave Zeltserman delivers a wry thriller in “The Caretaker of Lorne Green,” while Jonathan Moore provides a more contemplative police procedural in “A Swimmer From the Dolphin Club.” And if you like ancient history combined with heart-pounding suspense, you’re sure to enjoy “Voices in the Cistern” by William Burton McCormick, featuring Ancient Roman thief-sleuth Quintus the Clever.
