In our search for a cover model who exemplifies the description mentioned above, we found Sophia Nelson to be an expert at lifting others higher than herself and teaching them to be creative so that they unleash their voices to the world. The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about empowering others is bringing “energy and enthusiasm” out of someone so that they realize they have the potential to push beyond their comfort zone. The person looking to empower others must possess leadership skills or valued knowledge.

The dictionary defines the word “selfless” as concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own; unselfish or "an act of selfless devotion". Straight forward, right? But, if I am entirely devoted to a matter it may be construed as acting through self-serving motivations, right? Yet, I can be selfish for a worthy cause and that would be alright. This is why I am devoting my time to benefiting a particular, and most worthy, cause that is dear to my heart - Poverty!

“Collaboration” is the first word that comes to mind when I think about the power of teamwork. Why? Because to work successfully as a team you have to collaborate with one another. It takes a lot of effort to create this magazine; it takes teamwork. Some may call it group work, but whatever you call it, it is really the individual commitment behind it that makes a team. That, in itself, creates a powerful unity resulting in team success.

Back to Basics – A Simple Life. I define the phrase “back to basics” as the embrace of a simple life, as part of a desire to get in touch with your inner self. Some may consider the phrase out-of-date or old-fashioned. Others may think that embracing the ethos of the phrase entails our abandoning everything we have achieved to date. Humanity has, of course, advanced, and you might well agree that not all of this advancement has had a positive impact on our lives.

Authenticity is about being real. To be real, you have to be genuine and true to yourself – respect yourself, be yourself, and listen to your own inner voice. You are not like anyone else, so it is a beautiful thing to be yourself and not have to pretend to be someone else. It is so liberating when you have that self-realization that you are YOU! When you become authentic, everything feels natural and life begins because you are now in control of your own life. When you listen to your inner self, you also have more control of your actions and are more aware of your own being. You have the opportunity to discover who you truly are -- the privilege to be great according to your own self-defined standard.

Equanimity Magazine Spring Edition is about Creating a joyful life and long-lasting friendships. We can create friends all we want, but are those necessarily good friendships? Are they long-lasting? Is there a proven guide on creating long-lasting friendships? The answer is yes. Look to other people who have done it successfully. The people you know and meet who have created a joyful life and long-lasting friendships can be your guide. By following their proven footsteps, we too can achieve similar success.

What is success? While some may define success in terms of money, others define it in terms of what they’ve accomplished.  There’s no right or wrong definition. Success comes in different forms. You define it to your own liking so that it you can relate to your own success. On the most part, people tend to look at success in terms of what they’ve accomplished in life. I tend to favor this definition too. And all that relates to your goals - set your goals first to make it easy to measure your performance.

Equanimity Magazine Summer Edition theme is “Colorful World.” There is no one definition to this phrase. I think of “Colorful World” in terms of diversity—understanding that we are all unique and different in our own ways, but like a rainbow, we can accept our cultural differences and co-exist in harmony. Each individual is unique and represents something special. Imagine what a colorful world we could create if we accepted each other’s differences and lived together harmoniously!

Knowing how to set meaningful goals is vital and helps you stay balanced. When you set goals, you must believe in yourself and stick to your goals. No one deliberately sets themselves up for failure.
