Happy New Year! We are delighted to bring you our New Beginnings issue! The new year brings with it a fresh start and is a time for resetting your goals and the actions needed to reach them.
In response to the feedback of our readers, we are beginning a new column this month – Legally
Speaking. We will be covering different legal subjects that affect families.

The thought of camps can bring joy and/or trepidation to campers and parents alike. As we planned out this issue, our team had fun telling our own camp stories, and I thought I would share one of my stories with you. When my daughter, Elesha, was 6 years old, she wanted to go to a YMCA swim camp in an adjacent town. She was going to go with her good friend who lived next door. At the last minute, her friend decided not to attend. She, of course, was fearless. She thrived at the camp.

When you hear “Go Green” one usually thinks about environmentally sustainable practices to protect our environment. It is a term that is widely used in our society today. It connotes different things to different people but basically for me, it is a slogan to encourage people to choose environmentally friendly behaviors. However, in our “go green” issue of Parent Magazine, we have chosen to share information on the importance of having kids get outdoors in the environment to play.

Our goal with this issue is to give you an overview of our public schools, and to provide you with information on how to prepare your child for achievement tests. We have worked with the schools on content that can help you better guide your child as they move through their education.

Can you believe that the holidays are upon us already? Every year, I am surprised when I turn the calendar and see how close we are! I feel such excitement when I think about seeing my family, baking special things, singing Christmas Carols and sharing time with people I love.

Welcome to our Giving Thanks issue. November opens the door to many important seasons and holidays – Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the holiday season. Amid the busy days and activities, taking a moment to think about your blessings and express your gratitude has been proven to provide a happier and healthier mental state. Take the time to stop and enjoy the life you have, not only in November and on Thanksgiving, but every day.

Fall is full of delicious imagery, smells and tastes! While we are still enjoying warm weather, our days are starting to grow a little shorter, evenings are a little cooler and the breeze brings with it the vision of pumpkins and changing leaves. We have all settled into our school routines, and this month we will get the first real glimpse of how our child is adjusting to school.

We are proud to have completed our first year as publishers of Parent Magazine and what a year it has been! We have published 9 monthly issues and our first Health and Wellness issue. Our social media reach has grown over 10% and based on the feedback parents have given us they appreciate the information we are providing.
