ก่อนจะเขียนบทบรรณาธิการฉบับนี้ไม่นาน ตัวผมเองเพิ่งจะได้รับทราบข่าวร้ายว่านิตยสาร play ฉบับที่เพื่อนๆ กำลังอ่านอยู่นี้จะเป็นฉบับสุดท้ายแล้ว ซึ่งก็เป็นไปตามสภาพเศรษฐกิจและพฤติกรรมของผู้อ่านที่แปรผันเข้าสู่สื่อประเภทดิจิตอลมากขึ้น ในขณะที่สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์กำ•ลังล้มหายตายจากไปเรื่อยๆ เนื่องด้วยสาเหตุหลักคือไม่สามารถแบกรับค่าต้นทุนในการตีพิมพ์นิตยสารที่เพิ่มมากขึ้นทุกปีได้อีกต่อไป กอปรกับจำ นวนโฆษณาบนสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ที่ถือเป็นรายได้อีกช่องทางของนิตยสารนั้นก็หดหายตามกัน ด้วยเหตุนี้ play จึงจำ•เป็นต้องขอยุติบทบาทในฐานะสื่อประเภทนิตยสารรูปเล่มลง และเริ่มปรับเปลี่ยนสถานะเป็นสื่อประเภทดิจิตอลอย่างเต็มรูปแบบหลังจากนี้เป็นต้นไป โดยที่เพื่อนๆ ยังคงสามารถติดตาม ข่าวสารวงการเกมคอนโซลรายวันได้จากแฟนเพจ Playmag และนอกจากนี้ก็กำลังจะมีรายการใหม่ที่จะไปอยู่บนแชนเนล Online Station และ playmag TH ซึ่งจะเริ่มออกอากาศในช่วงปลายเดือนพฤศจิกายนครับ นิตยสารเกมเองก็ถือเป็นสื่อที่อยู่คู่กับเกมเมอร์ไทยมาช้านาน พอได้มารับหน้าที่ดูแลผู้อ่าน play ก็รู้สึกเหมือนได้เติมเต็มความฝันอย่างหนึ่งให้เป็นจริง แต่ทั้งนี้ทั้งนั้น นิตยสาร play ก็ยังต้องวนเวียนอยู่ในสัจธรรมที่ว่า “การพบเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการลาจาก” และนี่อาจจะเป็นการบอกลาผู้อ่านที่ดูจะกะทันหันไปหน่อย อย่างไรก็ตาม ตรงนี้ ผมอยากให้มองว่าเป็นการลาเพื่อรอพบตัวตน play ในโฉมใหม่ที่พร้อมรับกับยุคดิจิตอลมากขึ้นนั่นเอง กว่า 30 ปีที่ได้สัมผัสกับสิ่งที่เรียกว่า “วิดีโอเกม” มา สิ่งนี้ได้มอบความสุขและประสบการณ์ดีๆ แก่ผมมามากมาย จนกระทั่งมันเป็นความผูกพันอย่างหนึ่งที่ถอนตัวไม่ขึ้น และเชื่อว่าเพื่อนๆ ชาวเกมเมอร์ทุกคนคงคิดแบบเดียวกัน
