Castles of Sand A festival of sand sculpture is being held at Peter and Paul Fortress for the whole summer. Sand dinosaurs, characters from popular cartoons and blockbusters, Egyptian gods, pharaohs and sphinxes and St. Petersburg lions are arranged impressively on the beach between the Naryshkin and Trubetskoy Bastions. The largest compositions are a three-metre figure of the angel on the spire of Peter and Paul Cathedral and a “Fairytale Castle” over eight metres in height. There is a huge sandpit for children where they can practise making sand figures. Children under five are admitted free of charge.
