Boris Eifman’s ballet “Rodin” is set to the music of Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Massenet. It is about the life and work of the sculptors Auguste Rodin and his pupil, lover and muse Camille Claudel. It is the amazing story of two artists in whose complex, incredibly dramatic union everything was woven together: passion, hate and creative jealousy. The ballet reflects Rodin’s longing for his muse, his tortures of conscience and Camille’s ravings, full of morbid delusions brought on by mental illness, or rather the ravings of the fury that pitiless fate had turned her into. “Rodin” is a reflection on the inordinate price that geniuses have to pay to create immortal masterpieces. And, of course, it is about the torture and mystery of the creative process that will always worry the artist.
