Today, cycling is taken pretty seriously by people of all ages for a variety of reasons, from environmental concerns, health fitness to truly feeling that rush of adrenaline. Cycling is fast growing as a trend with enthusiasts becoming more willing to explore the various facades of cycling. Now, you can get world class purpose built mountains bikes in the Nepalese market that range from NRs.50000 up to nearly NRs.5 Lakhs. So, in our bid to further promote this fresh hype for cycling, we especially dedicate this issue of AutoLife to all cycling enthusiasts out there.

It's total two wheeler domination this month on AutoLife Magazine, and we aren’t complaining. Yes, we love our four wheelers just as much as the other guy but with the summery weather picking up stride getting in touch with the wind didn’t seem like too bad of an idea.
Well, that and the opportunity to test ride the most talked about motorcycle of 2015. To the delight of all the motorcycle enthusiasts of Nepal, the Ducati Scrambler made its way into the Nepali market with a banging introduction from Turbo Motors in the vicinity of Tangal Woods. As soon as we laid eyes on the beauty we had to have a go in it.
Not long after that, we got our chance and pounced on the opportunity to test ride the Icon version of the Ducati Scrambler. And it was one of the best experiences we’ve had yet. Wreaking havoc with it through Bhaktapur and past Banepa, the Scrambler thrilled us through and through. Read our photo heavy review of the Scrambler inside.

We have a lot of things planned for the 4th year of AutoLife Magazine, and we’re really excited to hit the right notes. To set the pace, we’ll kick things off with an issue jam packed with what brings us together with our readers: the love of anything and everything on wheels.
On test is the newly launched Mitsubishi Outlander GLX. As you might remember, we did an epic road trip on a Pajero which we took to Jomsom-Muktinath. Mitsubishi has a soft spot in our hearts, but the road trip set standards for the moniker which they themselves might have difficulty living up to. Read on to see if the Outlander passed with flying colors or fell short of the mark. Another product that had our hopes set high was the KTM. The naked prowess of the KTM Duke had us grinning from ear to ear. Surprisingly, we might have found a beauty that looks better clothed. Now there’s a sentence we never thought we’d be saying. We have both the KTM RC 390 and RC 200 on test inside. There are some amazing personalities that we got a chance to feature in this issue of AutoLife Magazine. A man that took his Honda CG 125 from Nepal to Europe- illegally- Madhav Sharma can be looked at as a determined personality or a stubborn character. His 1997 expedition has more adventures than most men can have in a life time. Following in his footsteps is Julian Shrestha. Who will be making a world tour on a 1979 Bullet, 350. We talk to him as well. On our personality of the month is Mr. Ashoke SJB Rana, CEO of Himalayan Bank Ltd. His collection of SUVs had us jumping at the opportunity to meet the man and ask about his passion for automobiles. There’s a lot more for you to flip through in this issue. Back in 2011, AutoLife was founded on the love for automobiles and everything related to it. With 58 test drives and 36 test rides under our belt, it has been a tremendous journey. We’ve scraped the flattest of the terai belts and kissed the highest mountains and along the way, we met some amazing people from all over the world who share the same passion.

So we are back again with ‘The Touring Special’ issue of AutoLife!! This is the annual issue that really gets us wandering about for those epic road trips. As you might have already guessed from the cover of this issue, this time it was indeed the mother of all epic road trips for us, much thanks to our enthusiastic friends at Mahindra Adventure. Yes, we went out
on a drive to one of the harshest places on the earth - The Everest Base Camp. We drove all the way to the lap of the mighty Everest on not just one, but five highly capable and adventure ready convoy from the sturdy Mahindra stable.

There aren’t many things that get us auto enthusiasts quivering with excitement in Nepal, but every once a year there is one thing that gets our engine running. We’re talking about the most-awaited automobile exhibition the NADA Auto Show which is just around the corner. This 3rd of September will kick off the show at Bhrikuti Mandap and as per tradition, we bring you an issue chock full of things that will prepare you for it. If the highlights from last years show don’t get you pumped up, we’re sure our feature on the most anticipated vehicle reveals at this edition of the NADA Auto Show will catch your fancy.

All of us love big cars that look super cool and run bloody fast. But here in Nepal, they just don’t make any practical sense because you not only end paying a huge premium price for it, but will hardly be able to test its true abilities due to our road limitations. So Hatchbacks it is! Spacious, affordable and fuel-efficient with urban versatility, nimble performance and dynamic handling - all bundled into one small package.

Every anniversary calls for a celebration. Of course the food and drinks will flow lavishly when we party out this achievement, but the more important thing was to make this issue the best gift to our valued readers and have mighty fun ourselves when at it. So with a ‘Breaking Barriers’ theme, we have kept it very special and exotic in this issue. Probably our best ever, this issue is to celebrate our glorified pace over the years and a tribute to only the best of motoring. To start with, there is the exclusive reviews of the Peugeot RCZ, Ducati Streefighter 848 and KTM 390 Duke in Nepal, along with an international review of the Infiniti Emerg-E by our reputed contributor, Girish Karkera - the editor of popular BBC Top Gear India Magazine.

We had the sporty VW Polo GT TSI for our test drive on the last day leading to the Dashain festivities and with those practically empty roads, it was a blast shuttling this pocket rocket around the valley. The VW is a fine example of good things coming in small packages and it was truly amazing to experience such a power surge from a tiny 1.2 litre motor. The VW Polo definitely sets the new benchmark in its segment with the advanced technology and mechanisms. We also had the mean looking UM Renegade Commando and the hard-to-miss Commencal Meta Hip Hop 2 mountain bike on test and for more on the new vehicles that have arrived in town, don’t miss our Launch Pad section. On the touring side, while our Friends Of Royal Enfield set out to promote motorcycle tourism on World Tourism Day with a group ride towards the Nepal-China border at Kodari, we briefly caught up with three different overland groups driving into Nepal with exotic SUVs like the Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Hybrid prototype, Toyota FJ Cruiser, BMW X5, Lexus LX470, etc. Read more on their adventures inside along with the Owners Review of the Ford EcoSport, Evolution of Mitsubishi Motors and our experience at Skoda’s Test Drive Weekend. So that’s pretty much it for this issue and just exactly what the doctor would prescribe to shake off that festive hangover and take it easy. No overdose.

SUV’s makes perfect sense for our forsaken roads. They give you the sense of freedom and adventure that is usually associated with motorcycles. The thrill of navigating through a rough off road terrain is unparalleled and evokes a sense of achievement unlike any other. Much to our delight, this month rained an onslaught of new SUVs to make up for this ‘SUV Special’ issue.

We had a go on three new SUVs – Tata Safari Storme, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra Quanto. The Safari Storme is a vehicle that looks imposing, has the brawn to bully the traffic and will get you across the worst unimaginable terrains. But the other two vehicles are a bit different concept. Since most hardcore off-road vehicles are infamous for their heavy drinking habits, this led to the birth of crossover SUVs. The Ford EcoSport and Mahindra Quanto are thus the latest in this new segment of compact crossover SUVs. Both vehicles not only offer the feeling of driving an SUV, but promises to give you fuel economy like a hatchback. Go figure your choice of wheels!

Every passing month we seem to mark a milestone in our list of achievements. Ok, we are not blowing our own trumpets again! But there is really very little we can do to not boast about it when we have genuinely earned the bragging rights to do the same. Let us come to the point. This month marks another prized achievement for us. We will now have reputed automobile magazine BBC TopGear India’s editor Girish Karkera writing a regular monthly column for us! Considering that these guys are a mega inspiration for us, it’s definitely no small thing for us at AutoLife.
Coincidentally, continuing with the flow of our amazingly motivated mood, we had the segment defining Honda Amaze getting launched in Nepal. Finally, most of you out there get to own that Honda badged car you have been dreaming about for ages, with the reasonable price tag. Not that the current petrol variant of the Honda Amaze isn’t great, but with petrol prices increasing by the day, more Nepalese have now begin to prefer diesel engines as well. So we think, introducing the more powerful and efficient flagship diesel variant of the Honda Amaze should also be the right thing to do for the authorized distributor here in Nepal. This will surely make other rivals sit up and scratch their heads. Then there’s another test drive report of the new Hyundai ‘i-gen’ i20. It’s the latest Hyundai vehicle to have undergone the widely accepted ‘fluidic’ treatment with some more level of refinements. This new variant of the popular premium hatchback is definitely bound to amaze with its segment topping list of high-end features. There were some more new amazing launches as well that arrived a bit late to make it to this issue’s review. Read some about the new Ducati Hypermotard 821, Suzuki Inazuma GW250 and 2013 Suzuki Wagon R, before we hopefully review them in the next issue.
Rounding off this issue are other amazing encounters such as catching up with a group of overland tourers from Thailand, witnessing rare and functional vintage vehicles at the Ford Heritage Month Finale, learning about our local cyclists all set to try out their skills at international grounds, meeting up with probably the only Nepalese Automotive Designer student, discovering about Giacomo Agostini’s crazy achievements, riding to Kalinchowk in pursuit of snow and some more.
Go ahead, read through as the rains pours hard outside and make sure you don’t get this issue wet. By the way, talking about monsoons, we have also compiled some advices for driving and riding safely in the monsoons...

We have come a long way. Haven’t we? Nineteen issues and still going down the road bloody fast! And as a reward to our passionate efforts, this month was proof enough to our progress and presence in the market. Much to our delight, this issue marks our first ever invitation to a grand media unveiling across border for the Ford Eco Sport in Goa. Read more about the sporty value-for-money Tata Vista D90, trendy Yamaha Ray and the capable 2014 Trek 4300 Four Series.

Don’t all of us occasionally love to indulge in a proper dose of adventure that really helps to escape from the humdrum monotony of life? Who does not! But the question is, whether we are genuinely determined to break free and take on an adventure head on. Of course, the idea of an ultimate adventure will vary
according to the taste of an individual. For some, a trip around the world may be the epitome of an adventure, while for others a hike through the wilderness may suffice. Flip through, and make no delay in taking on that adventure you have been planning for a long time!

BUDGET RUNNERS - All of us dream about ultimately getting ourselves a high end Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Range Rover, etc. But sadly, the probability that most of us will never be able to afford one, are much higher than the chances of affording one someday down the line. Now that\'s exactly why budget vehicles exist, to cater to the needs of most people for an affordable drive. A cheaper set of wheels is much easier on the pockets of most automobile buyers and hence cater to a mass set of buyers. Go ahead, flip through! And yeah, a Happy Nepali New Year to all our valued readers.

As of now, sports oriented cars aren’t really the most sensible purchase for our roads. But again, for any automobile enthusiast, most decisions are made from the heart rather than with the brain. And us, being the hardcore enthusiasts type, Laxmi Intercontinental (the sole Hyundai dealer here in Nepal) easily took our heart away, when they launched their sports coupe Veloster here in Nepal. Yes, regardless of all the sense that this sports oriented product might not make for our roads. Frankly, we never expected a car like the Veloster to actually be launched in Nepal.
