For the April/May edition, we report on the companies that paid fees to access data on seismic information for the first set of oil blocks in the bidding process of the National Commission of Hydrocarbons (CNH) in December. Regarding the second bidding round of Round One, as of April 6, there were 16 companies who had expressed an interest in exploring and exploiting oil, here we present the list and provide further details. 


For the February/March issue, we report on the oil giants interested in participating in the first tender of 14 areas in shallow waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Shell, and Ecopetrol are among 30 international companies ready to explore and produce crude in Mexico.

For the September issue, we take our readers behind stage of the Ministry of Energy (Sener) and present three government officials who labored strenuously during the legislative process of the Energy Reform. The key words to look for: Transparency, power transformation and the potential for renewable energies.

Mexico's energy transformation has just begun with the enactment of the secondary laws! Therefore, for this edition we present stories that give more detailed information about what was approved in the secondary laws, as well as how Pemex will re-structure its procurement division to accommodate the new times the industry is living and how the company will partner with private firms to develop 10 projects. 

For our July edition we present: Gas, solar energies to lead as Americas invest $1.3 trillion to build 2030 power capacity. A Q&A interview with congressman Javier Treviño highlighting Mexico’s energy reform and its expected benefits to its economy and increased competitiveness. And we take a closer look at the discussion of the secondary energy laws. 

For our June edition we present an article describing how Mexico is opening its doors to Canadian expertise and investments. Early this month a delegation of Mexican government and business officials traveled to Calgary to court Canadian businessmen. 

In the cover story we present Mexico’s National Infrastructure Plan (PNI) for 2014-2018. Of the 7.7 billion pesos, 3.9 billion pesos are set aside for the energy sector. An historic amount of investment that would expand the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 1.3 percent and 1.5 percent, experts point out that these investments have yet to materialize.

Alstom, the French multinational company which holds interests in the electricity generation and rail transport markets is  interested in modernizing Mexico's electric transmission network by taking part in investments to increase the country’s capacity to generate electric energy, according to the company's president Patrick Kron.

For our May edition we highlight Mexico’s participation at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) where this year’s attendance surpassed the 2013 total of 104,800 and the sold-out exhibition was the largest in show history at 680,025 ft². 

The Federal Electricity Commission is about to be transformed with federal and private investments hovering 96 billion pesos. It’s mission, not only to supply electricity services, but also natural gas. Enrique Ochoa Reza, chief executive for the CFE shares his views on how the construction of 4,100 kilometers of pipelines will represent a 34% increase to the national gas pipeline system.




For the April issue we present an interview with Ángel Larraga Palacios, country manager of Gas Natural Fenosa México. In our cover story Larraga shares how Mexico can learn from the 1998 Hydrocarbons Law approved by the Spanish government that paved the ground for an open market, where today over a dozen companies supply natural gas. 

The Aura Solar I photovoltaic power plant a $100 million dollar investment, Latin America's largest solar power plant was recently inaugurated and promises to supply electricity to the city of La Paz.  As Mexico’s electricity industry prepares for open markets, Mexican legislators and business experts agree the regulatory structure must adjust in order to increase the supply of electric energy to meet increasing demand; assure the continuity and quality of the electric energy provided; take advantage of natural resources; and motivate the production, competitiveness, and reduce costs.
