This World Environment Day, let us pledge to create kinder buildings by improving efficiency and using materials, energy, space etc. in moderation. Dig into the projects featured in this issue for some convincing inspiration. It gives me profound pleasure to present a virtuous dissertation project by Alan George Joseph, an alumnus of Avani Institute of Design Kozhikode, which envisions the regenerative potentials of architecture for creating a sustainable, ideal ecosystem by using nature as building material. In a special face-to-face conversation with GLITZ, Yatin Pandya talks about his inclination towards traditional architecture and conceptual and sustainable approaches in designing. On this month’s cover is Studio 2+2’s Janki Vyas & Sneha Suthar design- the Rancharda vacation home done in a contemporary style with an eclectic mix of brick cladding on the exteriors and wooden furniture in the interiors. Bound in a dense urban fabric, the New Delhi residence by Sourabh Gupta of Archohm Consults, has a commendable play of lights and shadows through various apertures in the walls and ceilings. A design of Parth Chitte and Vishal Chitte of De’Caves by Chitte Architects, the Dahod office features a nature-inspired material palette, parametric and curvilinear elements and oodles of natural lighting. Hrishikesh More of Hrishikesh More Architects opts for a serene pastel palette accentuated with hand-crafted teak wood furniture, crafting an old-school aesthetic in this minimalistic Mumbai home. Mayur Mangukiya and Ankit Sojitra of Studio17 model a nature-inspired show house at Surat that brings together striking materials employed over a clean-lined layout and elegant design. Interesting perforated metal screens on the outside and a soothing, natural aura on the inside make the Raipur home designed by Shreyansh Lunkad and Sachi Lunia Lunkad of White Tree Architects.
