Presently, as the pandemic fear wanes, and international travel opens, many corporates are now gathering their steam and teams together for various activities such as team building, strategic planning, and rewards and recognition events, which were on halt for the past two years.

At TTJ, since we believe there is going to be a further pickup and escalation in demand for MICE in the second half of 2022, we have brought out a MICE special edition in our May 2022 issue. The positive indicators from MICE stakeholders, including NTOs, hotels, associations, and operators, have been overwhelming, and this issue features their MICE sentiments and perspectives.

Also, despite the scorching heat, May 2022 is a busy month for the travel industry as we all look forward to big events such as Kerala Travel Mart, Arabian Travel Market, SATTE, etc.

With the resumption of scheduled international flights, the National Tourist offices (NTOs) and DMC operators in India are banking on the burgeoning Indian outbound market, which is expected to gain an uptick post the pandemic. India presents an immense opportunity for destination marketers to leverage the country’s holiday seekers and the young population, which includes Gen Z and millennials who are more likely to travel internationally.

Air connectivity between India and other countries is also improving tremendously, with many international airlines resuming their services to India. Outbound travel in India has also been reasonable because of the growing low-cost airline market.

Looking at the positive developments, the TTJ April 2022 issue focuses on Outbound Travel. In this issue, we spoke with NTOs, DMCs, and other tourism stakeholders such as airlines and cruise operators to get their perspectives on international travel from India. Most are happy, as travel sentiments are beginning to brighten up.


We at TTJ are truly excited that India is all set to resume scheduled international flight services from March 27, 2022. So, there is light at the end of the tunnel! 

As part of our industry focus, in our March 2022 edition, we touch upon a few women leaders in our industry who are making incredible strides in the work while showcasing resilience and dynamism. In our inspiring feature, ‘Women in Lead,’ we share with our readers their strengths, learnings, contribution, and their thoughts on empathy in the workplace. 

This issue also features some informative pages on Wildlife Tourism, highlighting Northeast India. The rich natural beauty, serenity, and exotic flora and fauna of this region are invaluable resources for tourism development, especially wildlife and eco-tourism.

With the Omicron-led wave of the COVID pandemic still underway, and though the centre and the states have so far avoided lockdowns, the travel and hospitality industry is still absorbing the full brunt of the downturn. 

While the hotels and airlines initially witnessed a wave of cancellations and faced debilitating losses, the mild manifestation of the Omicron variant has given some relief and the resultant rise in domestic travel is now keeping them going while strategising new ideas to capture the potential market. Until international travel returns to normal, the pent-up demand and the newfound craze for domestic discoveries are likely to boost the industries’ recovery from the impact of Omicron.

TTJ Feb 2022 issue features a few pages on the hospitality industry, which is still battling with the COVID-19 effect and variants with its resilience and never die attitude. Hotels have learned to be continually alert while remaining functional in the new normal. It will be a treat for you to read their views.

Travel restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the omicron variant are hammering the already beleaguered travel and tourism industry, after adding gloom in the crucial winter holiday season. Travellers are rescheduling or cancelling trips because of the tightening rules and the threat perception of Omicron infection.

The year 2022 has us all rewrite our travel and business expectations. It is a wait-and-watch situation once again for the industry. Yet, as to travel is human, we expect travellers to be keen to venture out soon, plan in advance, take all precautions, remain flexible and get insurance cover.

Similarly, it is time for us as an industry to stay together and keep our resilience intact and look ahead. Good days should be around the corner.

Our start of the year “Annual Issue” promises to be immersive and optimistic. We bring to you stories, expectations and reviews by tourism professionals from travel and hospitality verticals. We salute their spirit and confidence to think positively about the future, despite the hard and testing times.

The tourism industry is on its way to revival and has also started taking strides in that direction.

Consumers are adjusting and settling into a new normal, as they learn to live with the reality of COVID-19. As more countries reopen their borders, consumers will have more options and preferences to take that required break. Most importantly, their will to travel is still alive and it will be more so due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, our TTJ November 2021 issue will be a delight to read as we bring you a few pages which show recovery is on and more travel is on the cards.

Our October issue is a balance of inspiration and the feel-good factor mostly because of the Government opening up avenues for Inbound travel starting from this month. Alongside our usual compendium of refreshing destination stories and places to stay, we are here to motivate people to get back out there when it’s safe, encourage local businesses and travel communities and advise you to plan more conscious, sustainable and mindful trips for your clients in the future.

Here at TTJ, we understand the challenges so many of you are facing right now. However, I am happy to say that it looks like the wait is reaching an end, and I pray it does. Nearing two years, it is a testament to the resilience and innovation of the travel industry as a whole, which has soldiered through this adversity to open businesses and debut new products, importantly, keeping people safe and comfortable.

Our September 2021 issue is here to inspire and offer you a message that: hang on to your wanderlust and the world will be yours to explore and do business once more, as we are all still talking about travel. This time, we are featuring a few exclusive interviews which give some good insights into the happenings in travel and tourism business out of India. 


Overall, activities in travel and tourism had stalled for most parts of the year in 2020, but the gradual return of activity was anticipated and witnessed in each passing quarter in 2021.

Following the national lockdown last year, Hotels and Resorts were forced to reimagine themselves. Apart from quarantine centers, many hotels also innovated new ways of generating revenue, by adapting concepts like food delivery or staycations, among many others. The healthy improvement in occupancies of key markets in the first quarter was the most trustworthy indicator of return of demand and confidence in the hospitality sector in India, though there were ups and downs.

In our August 2021 issue, TTJ gives a larger glimpse of the ongoing recovery of the hospitality sector and we pray that the trend continues. Other than that, we have our regular features to keep you occupied and be optimistic about the future of travel.

Cut to July first week, the COVID-19 cases in India have started to recede and the vaccination drive is in a full swing. While States are finally opening their doors to the travellers, even far and near countries are thinking about opening their destination to the Indians, albeit fully vaccinated. However, everyone has learnt that a slow and cautious recovery is the best option in such a deadly pandemic.

While this brings confidence to our travel and tourism industry, we at TTJ as usual are keen on keeping our optimism alive. This reflects in our TTJ July 2021 issue, as we share more ‘Glimmer of Hopes’ through the words and thoughts of tourism stakeholders.

Also, the news of a major overhaul in Modi’s new Cabinet is refreshing and we look forward to the new and dynamic changes at MoT and MoCA with the appointment of G. Kishan Reddy as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Jyotiraditya Scindia as India’s new Civil Aviation Minister. Congratulations to both!

It is great to hear the news that The Taj Mahal and 3690 centrally protected monuments and sites have opened to the public, despite India still reeling from a disastrous second wave of the pandemic. There has also been a surge in tourists to visit the northern hill stations and travel plans are being discussed across the country. After being confined to their homes for more than a year, travellers around the world are now seeing a glimmer of hope. With many countries easing their restrictions, travel plans don’t seem that far down the lane.

TTJ in this issue continues with its spirit to be positive and full of hopes. For we know that once the government of India loosens up the guidelines for non-essential travel, Indian globetrotters will be ready to explore and reach the far ends of the globe.

After a brief start to recovery, the unpredictability of COVID-19 has again brought the momentum of the travel and tourism industry to a halt. The recent headlines of the more destructive second wave have again put travel bans and major event cancellations and the word “progress” seem like a thing of the distant past. 

While the timeline is hard to predict in the second wave, organisations, associations, companies in the better positions need to take bigger steps now to be ready to help and take initiative for the revival of the industry, support the economy and on their personnel front gain market share, enter new markets, and offer new products.
