This has been conveyed a million times so what's once more; we Punekars are extremely proud of our city. But, truth be told, other than 'basic' requirements like decent infrastructure, there are many 'cool' things that Pune needs. Stepping into a new year, we thought we'd list down some of them, which if established, will up the 'awesome' quotient of the city.

First off, we're hoping you guys had a clean and memorable Diwali! The two most recent elections being the most 'modern' in terms of how they focused on the vast middle class have brought about a change in the style of campaigning that some may not be too happy with. Our cover story is a fictional, tongue-in-cheek piece on one such election-specialist-cash-in person, his reasons for resenting the new ways and his hopes for good-old times (well, good-old for him).

Pune gave birth to the Sarvajanik (Public) Ganeshotsav celebrations in an effort to bring the masses together when India was in the clutches of the British Raj. That was then. Today, Pune celebrates to rejoice, welcoming Lord Ganesha with much fanfare and an open heart. In heed of our city's, why, state's grandest festival, we've showcased a Punekar's love for Bappa with 'Like Deity, Like Devotee'; the similarities between you, a Punekar, and the Lord himself!

We're excited. Why, you ask? We kick off this issue with India's 67th year of independence. This time, we took the liberty to dig deeper into the lives of the many unsung revolutionaries of Pune that contributed in India's struggle for freedom. Take a moment to read through as we reminisce about their struggle and, feel immensely proud of them.

Also, with Ganeshotsav just days away, we present to you two special stories dedicated to the biggest festival of our state. We're sure you'll have fun reading them. As always, you'll find the regular features in there.

We're all for visual appeal (ahem... who isn't), especially when it comes to brilliant photography. Our lovely cultural city has doled out some remarkable photographers and, we were lucky to get an opportunity to chat with some of them. Their passion for their work is amazingly contagious! 

As promised, we've covered another Puneri Peth for you, the second in our list of many such gems in the heart of Pune.
