We are immensely happy to announce our first-ever national-level sports awards for schools, teachers and students. It was on our minds right from the beginning when the Sportschamp magazine was launched. Being the first sports education magazine, it was our aim to be a connecting bridge between sports and education, and we wanted to appreciate the efforts the school principals, heads of the departments, and PE teachers were taking to promote sports at the grassroots level.

Through the Sports Champ platform, we get connected to several schools across India. As a part of sports education, we organise many seminars, workshops and counselling sessions for principals, teachers, parents and students. It was very surprising to know that most of the schools were unaware of what they are exactly required to bring a sports culture. The majority of them had infrastructure and facilities and coaching for team sports like football and basketball. The kids irrespective of their inclinations, physic and passion were forced to opt for the limited options the school provide.

It is believed that chess originated in India, and in the last few decades, chess in India saw a qualitative and quantitative rise. As of now, we have 74 Grandmasters (GM), 125 International Masters (IM), 18 Woman Grandmasters (WGM) and 42 Woman International Masters. We are among the top 10 in the world and our players have won joint gold in the 2020 Chess Olympiad and a bronze next year. Now, for the first time, India has got an opportunity to host the Chess Olympiad. While Chennai is gearing up for the mega event, starting from July 28, the Indian legend GM Viswanathan Anand is also likely to become the Depute President of FIDE, the International Chess Federation. With these steps, we can surely say that we are marching towards becoming a ‘Chess Super Power’.

It was not an easy task to continue going when everything was shut down during the Corona Pandemic. but we had confidence in our readers and decided to keep pushing and yet delivering our best. Let’s promote Indian Sports
Wrestling is the traditional sport of India and though the Indian wrestlers are doing a good job at the international level, the more popular version of the sport in India is mud wrestling or akhara. Especially in the states like Maharashtra, this traditional version attracts thousands of spectators.  

New content, new series
The Sports Champ group has always provided all-around sports education to its readers. Whether it’s a print magazine or our online talk show, now and then we have come up with new fresh content. We have now introduced a new series on international sports brands. The first guest is Dan Tigau, the founder, and CEO of Revolution 3.0 from Romania, who spoke about various aspects of table tennis.

Kudos to para-athletes

First, congratulations to all Padma Awardees of 2022. It’s a positive sign that four Paralympic medallists including multiple medallist javelin thrower, Devendra Jhajharia, Tokyo Paralympics double medallist shooter Avani Lekhara, gold medallist javelin thrower Sumit Antil and gold-winning para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat are among the nine sportspersons who are conferred with the Padma awards. Through our magazine, we have always promoted the para-athletes and it can be gauged from the fact we have already covered all these athletes in our previous editions.

The year 2021 is ending on a high note for Indian Sports. The athletes did a great show at Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. It started in April when Indian grapplers clinched 14 medals in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship and ended with seven medals in the Asian Archery Championships. The shooters were also impressed by winning 43 medals in the ISSF Junior World Championship in October while wrestler Anshu Malik became the 1st Indian woman to win the World Championships silver medal.

The year 2021 has turned out to be special for the Indian sports community. In the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian athletes returned with gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. The para-athletes raised the bar higher and with 19 medals, including five gold, the Indian contingent signed off with 24th in the overall tally - the highest ever

The Sports Champ magazine, which is India’s first sports education magazine is now quite popular and is praised by many. However, our ventures are not just limited to a monthly magazine. Along with the strong reading content, we have come up with an exclusive series of Sports Champ Talk Show, in which imminent sports personalities interacted with us.
