Canines provide us some gentle and loving company, being some of the best companions that we can have. From picking up a pup from another or from a canine breeder, to their first few nights with us, ‘Bringing Home a New Puppy’ takes us through various stages in a puppy’s life with ways to make their transition smoother.

Getting a new cat or kitten to our house can be a lovely experience. Felines help lower stress and calm tensions. However, before bringing a cat home, we need to spend adequate time in animal shelters or cat cafes to see if our family is ready to welcome a new member to its fold. Bringing Home a New Kitten/Cat suggests some do’s and don’ts before bringing home a new cat.

From selecting the right groomer to preparing your dog for his first visit and getting him ready for the routine, grooming is an important ritual in a dog’s life that will help in building a bond between owner and pet. In our Grooming Section, we give you the complete lowdown on the grooming experience.

Bringing Home A New Puppy Do's And Don'ts

The canine socialization period is when the puppy needs to stay with his mother and littermates. The games he plays with his litter mates teach him balance, coordination and timing. This is a critical period in the puppy’s life for he learns one of the most important lessons of his life—to accept discipline. He learns it from his mother. This learning has far-reaching implications: once the puppy has learned to accept discipline, it can be carried over to a new master. If deprived of this opportunity, he will never again be able to fully learn these lessons. Puppies that are taken away to a new home too early (before 7 weeks) will tend to be nervous and to bark and bite and often cannot accept discipline. They may frequently be aggressive with other dogs.

Effective Communication With Your Dog

Hi Gautam,I have two dogs, a Boxer called Menace and a French Bulldog called Lil’ Uzi. I am busy most of the time at work. However, my dogs have place to run around in the house and the yard, and they spend a lot of time with the house help. In general, they are happy dogs and well socialized. But they have certain issues like they run out every time the main door opens, they jump on all the guests and they destroy furniture in the house. The house help keeps saying “No”, and holding them when the doorbell rings. But they don’t listen to anything we say. I figure that my communication with them is wrong. Please advise.–Anshul Malhotra

Choosing The Right Groomer

We humans spend a lot of time on a daily basis taking a hot shower, as well as on brushing and styling our hair, regular nail spas and pedicures for our personal hygiene.
