Kalachuvadu is an international monthly journal for politics and culture. Published since 1988, it was founded by the noted Tamil writer Sundara Ramaswamy (1931-2005). Kalachuvadu was published first as a quarterly then a bi-monthly and has been a monthly since 2004.
A detailed and insightful interview of Bezwada Wilson, renowned campaigner against manual scavenging, and awardee of Magsaysay award for the year 2016 is the highlight of this December number of Kalachuvadu. He has been interviewed by another top notch writer Perumal Murugan. In this interview Wilson specks in breadth and depth about the flight of manual scavengers in the country. Two obituaries for Melanmai Ponnusamy, progressive writer in Tamil and Punathil Kunhabdulla, modernist writer in Malayalam are written by Kalanthai Peer Mohammed and Sukumaran respectively. M Gopalakrishnam writes on the Jhanpeet winner Krishna Shobti. A fine story by Kulasekaran and brilliant poems by Anar are the literary feast in this issue. Stalin Rajangam and L J Vilolet analyze the recent controversial movies ARAM and the short fiction movie LAKSHMI. The book section contains two excerpts from the novel Kudiyatram by THoppil Phammed Meeran and the biography My father Balaiah by Y B Satyanarayana. The editorial is on the Haduya alias Akila issue.
