ഒരു നിമിഷം കൊണ്ടാണ്‌ ഈ നഗരം ചാമ്പലായത്. മനുഷ്യരാശിയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഏറ്റവും ക്രുരമായ ചെയ്തിയായിരുന്നു രണ്ടാം ലോകയുദ്ധകാലത്ത്‌ അമേരിക്ക ഹിരോഷിമയില്‍ ചെയ്യത്‌. നഗരത്തിന്റെ 95 ശതമാനവും ഇല്ലാതായി. തലമുറകള്‍ പിന്നിട്ടിട്ടും അണുവിസ്‌ഫോടനത്തിന്റെ ദുരന്തം പേറി ജീവിക്കുകയാണ്‌ ഈ ജനത. ഏഴര പതിറ്റാണ്ട്‌ പിന്നിട്ടിട്ടും ഇന്നും ആണവായുധങ്ങള്‍ ഉയര്‍ത്തുന്ന ഭീതിയില്‍ നിന്ന്‌ ലോകം മോചിതമായിട്ടില്ല
