The Indian economy grew by a mere 5.4% per annum on average, taking the base year as 2004-2005 as per old series, but 6.7% as per the new series. The US-based Fitch rating agency lowered its projection of GDP growth rate for 2020 from 7% to 6.8% and 7.1% for FY 2021. Over half a decade, economic growth has been led by consumption demand, surge in retail credit and higher revenue expenditure by government.
