Bhagawat: The Krishna Avatar Magazine Description:

"Of the 18 Mahapuranas, the Bhagawat is the most popular. It tells of the ten reincarnations of Vishnu and sings of his glory. The stories in this special collection are based on the 10th canto of the Bhagawatwhich narrates the life of the most beloved god of the Hindu pantheon Krishna.

Beginning with his miraculous birth, the stories trace Krishna's childhood exploits as he destroys the demoness Putana and vanquishes the terrible serpent, Kaliya. They tell of how he reclaims Mathura and fights the evil Jarasandha. Here is Krishna as son, brother, lover, husband and friend.

The narration of the Bhagawat is in the form of a dialogue between Sage Vyasa's son, Shukadeva, and King Pareekshit, the grandson of Arjuna.

The Bhagawat Purana was composed in the era before Christ but in its present form it is dated between the 6th and 10th centuries AD.
