The month of October will see the canonization of another Italian Lay Dominican, Bartolo Longo, who unlike Pier Giorgio Frassati had a very dark beginning. His journey began with devotion to Satan, through conversion to becoming a dedicated Apostle of the Most Holy Rosary. It was as a result of his writings that Pope John Paul II was inspired to promote the Luminous Mysteries. Staying in Italy, Ray Hughes visits the Sanctuary of Divine Love, tucked away in the outskirts of Rome. Italy is referenced again in Fr Aelred Magee’s article on Hands. Check out Fr Aelred’s photograph in Pets’ Corne ! Saint Augustine’s conversion to Christianity is considered to be one of the most important events in the history of the Catholic Church. However, it is his mother, St Monica on whom we focus in Married Saints. It was she who exercised a major influence for goodness and change on his life. In Echoes Patricia Hope finishes her series on the history of agriculture and in The Life of Saint Martin our dear saint is finally laid to rest, but the story does not stop there. October is of course the month of the Rosary, and we have two articles about this most beloved prayer of the Church. One in Evangelium and the other is by the famous Rosary Priest, Fr Gabriel Harty OP, who dedicated his life to its promotion.
