In April we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, that event which is central to our Christian belief. Fr Walsh OP assures us that “The Risen Christ at Easter is the promise of new beginnings.” In part 4 of the Camino Journey by Ray Hughes, the writer shares an experience akin to that which the women had when they met the Risen Lord in dawn light. Fr John Cunningham OP has an article inspired by a newspaper cutting from the Archives of Holy Cross Friary, Sligo. The Saint of the Month is Giuseppe Girotti OP and the Famous Convert, Avery Dulles, an Italian and an American respectively, one a humble priest, the other a celebrated cardinal. Fr Conor McDonough OP examines St Patrick’s stand against the violence of his time which can serve as an example to Christians of today. Fr Aelred McGee OCSO looks at the afflictive thought of pride which is essentially the consummation of all the other afflictive thoughts, brought together into a single utterly destructive unit which cuts off God himself. ‘It Happened This Month’ features the highs and lows in the life of Ulysses S. Grant, American President and war hero. May is the month of Our Lady and on the first day of that month we will observe the feast of Jesus’ father on earth, St Joseph the patron of workers.
