Studying an advance copy of the 2017 HCVS Tyne-Tees Run programme, I was puzzled by entry G82 an “ Austin 440 City van” – what could that possibly be? Upon arrival it looked, at first glance, to be a familiar Morris Ital 440L van from 1984. However, closer inspection revealed it was badged up everywhere as an Austin! That confused me completely, I’d never seen or even heard of
such a van, was it genuine?

I caught up with Andrew DeHaes- White in Clifton, Bristol to snap his simply stunning Citroën 2CV van, and we just about managed the photoshoot before the rain came down.

The big news of 1952 (at least in the comm ercial vehicle world) was the launch of the new Bedford CAVan by Vauxhall Motors, replacing the by-then antiquated, car-derived Bedford PC van.
