Well as I speak I have 10 acres of water draining down and I hope to harvest around 26,000lb of carp from it. We went in a few weeks ago to get a health check sample and the fish look to have had a reasonable summer but to be honest a small sample isn’t always reflective. Our best growth rate on the site has been 5.1lb per fish and our worst 2.94lb which is quite a contrast and obviously this matters to the profitability of the business greatly
when you take an average price of £15 per lb across the board for the whole lake of fish and you have 1800 in the lake. A pound up or a pound down on what you expect can make a difference of £27,000. I work on 3lb per fish a year growth although I have to say I would be a bit disappointed if I haven’t done a bit better than that this summer.
