THE Celtic View is 50 years old and this week’s issue of the oldest weekly club publication in football is a celebration of this milestone.

In the 68-page special edition, there are exclusive interviews with Henrik Larsson, Paul McStay, Billy Connolly and Fergus McCann, while we also speak to founding editor, Jack McGinn.

And there is also a free reprint of the very first edition, which was published back in 1965.

Celtic’s legendary Swedish striker said: “The first time I saw the View, it was lying about in the dressing room and then I was obviously working with the View reporters for a number of years and it’s a great Celtic magazine.

“I’d never encountered anything like that at my previous clubs, not in the same way, it was more the papers who wrote about the teams but at Celtic we had the papers and our own Celtic View so that made it a lot more interesting.”

And The Maestro added: “Interviews weren’t one of my most favourite things to do but from a club perspective, it got the message out to the fans and that was very important and is probably even more so now, that the fans get the true message from the club.

“And players feel more comfortable talking to the View because they know things will be quoted accurately and will print what the players are actually saying.”

This week’s 50th anniversary edition of the Celtic View also includes exclusive interviews with Ronny Deila, Mikael Lustig and Nir Bitton, and lots more besides.
